The Biggest anime party in the netherlands
What is club weeb?
Nightclubs: there are plenty of them, but the average weeb rather skip them. Understandable, of course: as an anime lover, you’d be better off investing the price of a ridiculously expensive ticket into a new figure, a convention ticket, or flashy cosplay. And let’s be honest: the music at such club nights is pretty bad. At Club Weeb, we aren’t exactly looking forward to ego-tripping DJs bombarding you with mediocre pop hits from 10 years ago or ear-splitting techno. But, what if there was an anime party in the Netherlands where anime fans and cosplayers could go absolutely wild to their favorite J-pop bangers, anime OPs, and Vocaloid anthems? Sounds like a fantastic night, right? You’re in luck: that’s exactly what we do!
Since 2022, we have been organizing Club Weeb: A Weeb’s Night Out twice a year at EKKO Utrecht: the very first anime party in the Netherlands with an exclusive focus on Japanese pop music. Cosplay is more than welcome, and with enough effort, you can even win a prize. As the Club Weeb DJ Team, we spin a set ourselves featuring Vocaloid and J-pop, among others, but we also invite (inter)national DJs for hyperactive anime sets. Armed with a penlight in your hand, you can go wild all night long to the iconic bangers of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Hatsune Miku, Kenshi Yonezu, and Yoasobi!
More than just partying to anime tunes
Club Weeb stems from a lack of unique events for anime fans. There are plenty of conventions, but apart from an annual trip to Made in Asia, Abunai, and Animecon, that is essentially where it ends for many fans. That is a shame, because the community is growing incredibly fast and anime has never been more popular than it is now. Inspired by the over-the-top anison nights at Club Mogra (an anime nightclub in Akihabara, Tokyo) and international events like Neko Nation, we therefore decided to take matters into our own hands.
In addition to a massive DJ lineup and an extensive spectrum of hyperactive Japanese pop music, there is even more to discover at Club Weeb. For instance, together with our venues, we have curated a special alcoholic menu featuring, among others, our own twist on the infamous ‘Strong Zero’,
You can visit the café to meet other fellow Weebs and enjoy a drink together. With enough cocktails in your system, we even challenge you to take to the karaoke stage and scream your lungs out to ‘What’s Up People’ and ‘PonPonPon’.
Club Weeb XL: A Grand Weeb Spectacle!
After 9 editions, half of which sold out completely, it is time to go all out with an extra-large anime party in the Netherlands. Expect more DJs, more side programming, more space, and above all, more spectacle. An XL edition, in other words, for which we are partnering with a significantly larger venue: De Helling.
The program includes DJ sets by BrainShit, Vault Kid, SARE, Duzzled, Caorin and Shiz. VJ Kaz is also back for live visuals, supported by a shitload of lasers.
Additionally, you can entertain yourself at the now-famous karaoke stage, but we also have a photobooth and a selection of Japanese arcade machines. In other words: we are going all-out.
Inclusive safespace for weebs
Making a decision on picking EKKO and De Helling as locations for Club Weeb was a very deliberate one: they are conveniently central, and both venues have a distinctive, inclusive image. The venues’ programming covers a wide range but consistently offer safe and pleasant environments. Cosplayers and anime fans can therefore simply be themselves, without any unpleasant complications.
‘Club Weeb: A Weeb’s Night Out!’ takes place several times a year and always ends at midnight, so you can get home without any problems by public transport. Please also note that you will only be granted entry if you are 18 years or older. See you there!
